According to Shelly's Law, a gal can never own too many bras, or too many trench coats. Commence your trench collection with the classic tan variety, cop another in black if you live in a dirty city, one noticeably vintage style and sleek aged leather if you can find it. After you've stocked up on the basics, venture into lady land for a proper gray cotton trench from Umbria. Lovey! ($158)

Clearly Beloved
Surprisingly, the local cobbler stocks a variety of products; usual items like suede cleaner and sometimes the unexpected clear golf umbrella. Even compact and on a rack, it had a sleek and futuristic quality, I purchased it on the spot. The threat of showers has only occurred twice this week, each time I was prepared with my invisibrella and the compliments rolled in. Maneuver through a sea of black umbrellas on a crowded New York City sidewalk with style and ease. ($30)

Sailor Moon
Japanese bookseller Kinokuniya is one of my favorite places to shop for paper goods; so I was surprised to find they now carry a small selection of clothing from Beth by Victorian Maiden. Never heard of it? Me neither, so I did a bit of research on Harajuku girls and contemporary Japanese fashion. This sailor collar coat is in the "Lolita" style, for the young lady with a disposable income and penchant for girly Victorian clothing. Sweeten the deal with red patent mary janes, patterned hosiery and white gloves . ($388)

Sharp, and vintage inspired, this leather biker jacket has all of the accutrements of a future and valued addition to your wardrobe. Ridiculous zipper action at the cuff, breast and pocket include tiny studd details on each. The asymmetrical ziper track from the collar to the hip and buckle self-belt are the icing on the cake. Match with a denim pencil skirt, pink patent leather heels, and frilly silk blouse for kicks. (£80/$157)

Well Red
Add a bit of flavor to your coat closet with this striking red wool coat. From the turned down collar, to the flared sleeves with tie-detail, this lady-like coat reminds me of a Doris Day film. Sweet, demure, fashionable and all-American I believe the coat, like dresses and skirts, could even inspire men to be more chivalrous. ($398)

Zebra Crossing
Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B line is one of the best amongst the plethora of celebrity fashion lines. Which is what you would expect from someone who styles herself so well because this coat is fierce! Only the bold and fabulous need purchase this double-breasted zebra print coat. Animal prints will never loose favor in my book and this original print is a new classic. Pull a Gwen and pair with matching fire engine red lipstick, gloves, and platform pumps. Flossy, flossy! ($685)

Not enough bling to signal a plane, but a lovely substitute for the earrings hidden under the muffs. Makes for a lovely winter gift. Cop one! ($65)

Rabbit Hunting
Up to 40% of body heat is lost through the head, therefore heavy duty gear, like this man's plaid wool and shearling Anchorage hat, is necessary for the most cold and windy snow days. Equal parts Elmer Fudd, Fargo, and punk rock, the black and red plaid check and oversized fit are the main attractions. Made by your grandpa's company, Woolrich, prospecting outfitters since the days of log cabins and such. ($45)

The Cat's Meow
What to wear over that cute party dress? A tart little leopard print cropped jacket that's what. Wear with the cuffs up or down, buttoned or unbuttoned, either way you'll look smashing. From Georgio Armani's "bridge line" Emporio Armani, it's perhaps a tad expensive for 100% Polyester, but it sure is cute! I'll take one. Purr. ($695)

Tenderfoot Tootsie
Since you can't wrap yourself in a log cabin, try a belted woolen wrap sweaterinstead. Stand out among the winter blacks and grays with the soft colors of the desert plains. Distinctive striping patterns harken back to the handloomed wool blankets of the Southwest Native Americans. A timeless piece from Missoni Sport, the simplistic design and flattering cut complement most body types. Break out the turquoise and blue jeans, but leave the cowgirl boots at home and let the sweater do most of the talkin'. ($871)

Muffle Up
Keep your mitts toasty this winter with a sheepskin hand muff. Manufactured by Purdey, English hunting purveyors for small game assassins; it features a bridle leather neck strap, zip pocket, and furry trim. Although I detest the hunt, the spoils can be quite tasty and the accessories sublime. Typically worn over gloves, it's a stylish and usually absent component of the rugged-refined winter wardrobe. Lovey! (£250/$513)

The vintage style jacket has wide rounded lapels, and 3/4 length sleeves in addition to the abbreviated length. Stitched from a nubbly poly/wool blend, the jacket is completely lined with satin and complemented with tortoise-like buttons. The rarefied yellow and white check pattern is simply delish! Cop one. Pop Ya Collar
Having a Jackie O moment? You will as soon as you slip on this 60's inspired wool jacket. Winter white, with an adjustable collar that can be worn up or down, it's quite posh. Wear to the President's Ball with opera length gloves and formal gown. Or pair it with a high-waisted pencil skirt and secretary blouse to a fancy dinner. And please replace that unfortunate safety fastener with a jeweled brooch, the pin cheapens the look ever so slightly. ($150)

Plaiditude
Toronto based House of Spy is the shiznit! Normally that would be 'nuff said, but why not exult a bit more on this charming plaid dolman sleeve jacket? The teal and chocolate color scheme should match brown knee-length stiletto boots perfectly. A rounded flat collar and contrasting tie-belt with matching covered buttons are simply delightful! Add a pair of elbow length gloves and toque worn rakishly at an angle as the finishing touch. Flossy flossy! ($252)

Leather Forecast
Mother Nature let the temperature in New York City drop to 55 degrees last night! That's pretty nippy for a Florida girl — like it or not, Fall is here. Pack away those flimsy summer wraps, they won't keep out the chill air like this stylish washed leather blazer will. With great details like cropped sleeves and one button closure, this is probably a jacket you can only wear 3 months out of the year... like that ever stopped you. (£90/$125)

This Is Why I'm Haute
I've gone ga-ga for this brilliant woolen polka dot short coat from Sonia by Sonia Rykiel. A modern take on Victorian tailoring; darts, pleats, and folds dominate throughout. Fitted and pleated sleeves, puffy shoulders, nipped in waist and subsequent flare are also dead giveaways. The grand doyenne adds off beat touches like assymetrical button fastening and pintucks througout to sweeten the deal. ($730)
