The Butterfly Effect

Enter Johnstons of Elgin, they've been in business for over 200 years producing the finest cashmere and woolen knitwear — this lovely spot cardigan is no exception. Knit from a sumptuous silk and cashmere yarn, the pink spots and trim with the tiny pink pearl buttons make for a luxurious holiday gift. (£80/$168)

Bamboo-ya

Bamboo fabric, besides being sustainable and naturally antimicrobial is also incredibly soft. Perfect for baby clothing and yoga gear, designer Lara Miller has created a hand-loomed cardigan from this wonderful grass textile. Ms. Miller seems to have tipped her hat to avant-garde designer Yoji Yamamoto, known for his drapey, oversized silhouette and billowing garments. Designed to be worn upside down as well for yet another intriguing shape, you'll get tons of mileage out of this lovely wrap. ($155)

The blue version of this enchanting jersey top is infinitely sweeter than this ivory color, but it hasn't yet hit the stores. Wait for it! Diane von Furstenberg practically invented the wrap dress, and she's taken the same aesthetic and applied it to this silk wrap top. Tie the belt in front or back and get ready to show off the 'girls' with some major league cleavage action. Don't put away those summer clothes just yet, with unseasonably warm temperatures this week in NYC, you can still rock the short sleeve tops. If M.C. Escher had designed women's clothing, I'm sure he would've decorated a blouse exactly like this. Cat Woman

There's something slightly subversive about this cat covered cardigan. Which is probably exactly what the designers of Swedish brand Mjolk had in mind. Made of pure, super fine 8 gauge wool, Dr. Huxtable may have loved it, but you should vamp it up Dita Von Teese style. Mix in a black silk bustier, wiggle skirt, pompadour, superchunk Dior platforms, fishnets, a dash of naughty and smidge of spice. A bewitching look for Amy Winehouse methinks.($335)

Perfect for a Manhattan roof-top party, this ruched silk tube top from Arden B is cool mustard sophistication. Hot Tamale!

Do empire waist tops make you look preggers? The answer is mostly yes, I don't believe that they are flattering for most body types but there are a few exceptions. This hot spaghetti strap top has more of a drop empire waist; the ruching is a few inches below the bust instead of directly beneath. Other great details are the keyhole back, adjustable straps, ruffles, and the gold thread stitches. Hotness. ($128)
